Terms

There is no service here to sign up for, so there is not much to agree to. What governs your use of GEML is its licences.

What you are getting

  • The code — the reference parser, the CLI, the MCP server, the editor and browser integrations, the playground — is licensed MIT.
  • The specification documents are licensed CC-BY-4.0, which lists them exactly.

Both licences let you use, modify, and redistribute this work, commercially included. Both also state that the work comes as is, without warranty of any kind — read the licence text; that disclaimer is the operative term here, and nothing on this site adds to or narrows it.

Implementing GEML

You need no permission to implement the format, to name your implementation after it (geml-rs, pygeml, a geml package on your language's registry), or to say that your tool reads and writes GEML. Two requests, neither of them a legal restriction:

  • call an implementation conformant to GEML 1.0 only once it passes the conformance suite;
  • don't imply that this project wrote, endorses, or maintains it.

Attribution for the specification text itself is what CC-BY-4.0 already asks for.

This website and the playground

Provided for free, as is, with no uptime commitment. The playground runs wholly in your browser; nothing you type into it is sent anywhere.

Contributing

Contributions are accepted under the licence of the file you are changing — MIT for code, CC-BY-4.0 for the specification documents. See CONTRIBUTING.md and CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md.
